Chapter 4 · 4.2
Using styles and headings
Watch it in a short video
A style is a fixed combination of formatting: font, size, colour and spacing. Euro-Office has styles for regular text, a title and headings at different levels. If you work with styles, your document looks consistent throughout, and you can create a table of contents with a single click.

Applying a style
- Place the cursor in the paragraph that should become a heading. You don't need to select anything.
- On the right of the Home tab, click Heading 1, Heading 2 or another style in the style gallery (1). Use the arrow to the right of the gallery to see all styles.
Use Heading 1 for chapters, Heading 2 for sections and Heading 3 for subsections within them. For regular text, choose Normal.
Keyboard shortcuts: Alt + 1, 2 or 3 turns the paragraph into a Heading 1, 2 or 3 (on Mac, Cmd + Option + 1, 2 or 3).
Adjusting a style
Want all headings to have a different colour, for example? Format one heading the way you want, right click the style in the gallery and choose Update from selection. All headings with that style change along with it. To create your own style, right click the formatted text and choose Formatting as Style, then Create new style. Use Restore to default to return a style to how it was.
Move quickly through your document with the navigation panel
Click the Headings button (1) on the left. You'll then see all the headings in your document listed underneath each other. Click a heading to jump straight to it. This is very handy for long documents.

Tip: styles are saved in the file. If a colleague opens the document in Word, they'll see the same styles, and the headings will also work in the navigation pane there.
