Website offline with the message "temporarily unavailable due to maintenance work

Do you see a message on your website saying that the domain is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance work? Then your hosting package has been suspended, usually because there's an outstanding invoice. In this article you'll read how to check this and how to get your website back online.

What does the message mean?

You'll land on a WebOké page with roughly this text: "The domain yourdomain.nl is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance work."

Your package is then set to inactive (suspended). Your files, databases, and mail remain stored. The most common reason is an invoice that's still unpaid after the due date and a couple of reminders. You'll receive an email about this when the package is suspended.

Check and pay your outstanding invoice

  1. Log in to My WebOké. If there's an outstanding invoice, you'll see it right away at the top of the dashboard.
  2. Go to My Invoices › Outstanding.
  3. Click Pay next to the invoice. If there are multiple outstanding invoices, use Pay all.
  4. Choose a payment method and complete the payment.

You can also pay via the payment link or QR code in the invoice email. See Paying via a payment link or QR code.

How quickly will your website be back online?

  • Paid online (for example with iDEAL): as soon as the payment is processed and there's no other overdue invoice outstanding for this package, we'll automatically turn the package back on. This happens right after your payment is processed. Your website is usually reachable again within a few minutes.
  • Transferred the money yourself: the package turns back on as soon as your money reaches us and is linked to the invoice. We collect bank payments every hour, but it can take one or two business days before your money reaches us. Always put the invoice number in the description, so we can link your payment automatically. Want to be back online faster? Then pay online instead.
Never want to think about invoices again? Turn on direct debit. See Setting up or stopping direct debit.

Paid, but your website is still offline?

  • Check in My Invoices whether there's another outstanding invoice for this package. As long as that's the case, the package stays suspended.
  • Does the invoice say Processing? Then a direct debit is in progress. In that case, don't pay again yourself.
  • Refresh the page or try a private window. Your browser may still be remembering the suspension page for a while.
  • Is everything paid and does the site remain offline? Contact us via a ticket. If an invoice has been outstanding for a very long time, the package may already have been terminated. In that case, we'll look together at what's still possible.

Other reasons for a suspension

  • Excessive usage or abuse. If your website used so much of the server that it threatened to become unstable, or if spam or malware was found, we may suspend the package. You'll receive a notification about this. This kind of suspension doesn't automatically lift after a payment: we do that ourselves, once the problem has been resolved.
  • You suspended the domain yourself in DirectAdmin. You can turn it back on yourself as well. See Deactivating or suspending a domain.
